Project Overview →
Misplaced Curiosities, is a hybrid art gallery event initiated with the aim of raising funds for local creative projects in Brisbane. The funds raised by the first editions of the gallery were used to support the short film production, The Scatterer (written & directed by Felix Lovell, produced by Eleanor Somerville).

For their debut opening, I was tasked with creating the collective's logo. I also provided them with merchandise concepts.

Process

I worked closely with the client, Felix Lovell, co-owner of Misplaced Curiosities, when designing the logo. The client specified they wanted the logo to have a mysterious horror element. We aimed that this element to the logo would garner intrigue from the general public, hence generating interest and hype around attending the gallery.

I turned to eyes as inspiration for the logo, as well as old newspapers, and the work of David Lynch.

With the merchandise concept, I experimented with deforming text to create a textured, energetic, almost movement-like optical illusion. I chose to use the whole spectrum of colour to represent the great spectrum of artist's that would be featured in the galleries, each harbouring a unique individual practice of work.

An image of a design for a poster I created for GOMC Gallery. It is a drawing of an eye overlayed on to a distorted picture of a human eye. The drawing of the eye features rainbow eyelashes.
